Abstract

Climate research has made tremendous progress over the last decades. Models are now providing projections of climate change, that serve as the basis for the development of regional, national and international climate policies. Mitigation of climate change is central, but adaptation to unavoidable changes and perhaps geo-engineering also need to be considered.

Society is facing today perhaps one of the largest challenges it ever faced: transforming society from an energy consuming economic model to a sustainable world, where values become more qualitative, and where progress is measured not only in terms of financial returns. The challenge is immense, but offers also exciting opportunities.

The talk will take us in a journey from the first discoveries in climate science that showed the risks encountered by our societies to views towards solutions that will require a well planned planetary management.

Guy P. Brasseur教授主要简历

　　1992-1996年任地球物理研究-大气部（Journal of Geophysical Research-Atmospheres)主编；1994-2001年, 国际大气化学计划（International Atmospheric Chemistry Project-IGAC)主席；2002 -2005年，国际地球与生物圈计划（ IGBP）主席；2002-2004年美国地球物理学会（American Geophysical Union）主席。主要从事含氮化合物在上部大气层对臭氧和温度的影响以及对中高层大气正负离子形成和消耗的作用、氟氯化合物对平流层臭氧的影响、化学扰动对气候强迫的作用、生物地球化学与气候系统的相互作用，他领导开发了全球大气化学模式（MOZART）,并在很多大学和研究所使用，目前正在推进地球系统集合模式系统的开发。
